HSA in the Daily Orange!

Last night, HSA’s first-ever benefit concert – a St. Patty’s Day fundraiser towards our Formal later this semester, the proceeds of which will go to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse – went off without a hitch.  It was, perhaps, the first event in HSA history that managed to bring together so many people from so many different segments of the SU community.  It wasn’t just e-board at this event, you guys; over 150 people came to see four musical acts (from a lovely ladies’ a cappella ensemble to a banjo-pickin’ folk band) at the rad local venue Funk ‘n Waffles.

Most notably, the event was covered by the SU student paper, the Daily Orange – another first for HSA! A night of bangin’ music and lots of goodwill, followed by big-time free publicity? We’d call this one an unqualified success.

Why, hello there

Welcome to the Syracuse University Honors Student Association’s brand-spankin’-new blog!  It represents an initial effort by a small student organization to tap into the exciting possibilities of ye olde blogosphere, inspired by a suggestion from Social Chair Emeritus Rachel Fus.

But what exactly is the blog for, you ask? A quick peek at the post categories, at right, might give you a hint.  Look here for upcoming HSA events, recaps of those events (in case you couldn’t come – we totally understand, so watch this space for what you missed! maybe we can guilt-trip you into attending next time), and general updates on where this nerdy little boat is sailing.  We’d also like to use the blog to stay in touch with our alumni – we even have a category, HSA Lore, designed to act as an archive of fond memories and funny stories from all those old folks. (Just kidding! You’re young and beautiful and we love you, even if you did break our hearts by graduating.)

So, in short, this is a grand experiment in digital community-building by  The Little Student Organization That Could; we’re excited.  You should be too.  Stay tuned.
